Privacy Policy
Brain Mission Academy is built for children, so protecting their privacy comes first. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It's written for parents, in plain language.
Because we serve children under 13, we follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The short version: a parent sets up the account, we collect only what we need to run the program, we never sell your data, and you can see or delete your family's information at any time.
Who we are
Brain Mission Academy is operated by Brain Mission Academy LLC. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@brainmissionacademy.com.
What we collect
About you (the parent or guardian):
- your name and email address
- an access code, if your school or partner gave you one
- notes you choose to write in your Parent Notes or weekly check-ins
- payment details, which go directly to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
About your child, provided by you or created as they use the program:
- first name only
- grade and reading level from the starting reading check
- interest survey answers and the detective partner they pick
- session scores and answers to practice questions
- the 1–5 confidence ratings they give at the end of sessions
- reading-practice results (words per minute, accuracy, and words to practice), when you use the guided reading tracker together
Basic technical information: like nearly every website, our hosting provider automatically processes things like IP address, browser type, and pages requested, so it can deliver the site and keep it secure.
What we do NOT collect
- No photos or video of your child.
- No audio recordings. Our current program never uses the microphone. If we add read-aloud speech features in the future, we'll ask for your separate, explicit permission first.
- No location data.
- No social media accounts or logins.
- No last names, home addresses, or school names for children.
- No contact information for children. Children can't message anyone through Brain Mission Academy, and nothing they do is shown publicly.
How we use information
- to run the program and personalize your child's missions
- to choose reading passages that match their level and interests
- to show you their progress on your parent dashboard
- to send you session reminders, progress summaries, and account emails
- to keep the site secure, fix problems, and improve the program
We never sell your family's information, never use it for advertising, and never let advertisers track your child. We don't ask children for more information than they need to take part.
Parental consent
Only a parent or guardian can create an account. When you sign up and set up your child's profile, you're giving us your consent to collect and use your child's information as described in this policy, and you're confirming you're the child's parent or legal guardian.
You can withdraw that consent at any time. Just email privacy@brainmissionacademy.com and we'll stop collecting information about your child and delete what we have.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without a parent's consent. If we learn that we have, for example because a child signed up on their own, we'll delete it promptly. If you think this has happened, please email privacy@brainmissionacademy.com.
As a parent, you can always:
- review the information we have about your child
- ask us to correct it
- ask us to delete it
- tell us to stop collecting any more
Where your data is stored
When accounts launch, your family's information will be stored with Supabase, our database provider, on servers in the United States. Data is encrypted while it travels (HTTPS) and while it's stored. Access is limited to the people who need it to run Brain Mission Academy.
Right now, during our early preview, the site saves your child's profile and progress only in your own web browser on your device, not on our servers. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Services we work with
We share information only with the companies that help us run Brain Mission Academy, and only what each one needs:
- Stripe processes payments.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Supabase stores account and progress data.
- Resend sends our emails, like reminders and progress summaries.
These providers are only allowed to use your information to provide their service to us. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a child.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your family's information while your account is active, so your child's progress is there when they come back.
You can ask us to delete all of your family's data at any time by emailing privacy@brainmissionacademy.com from the email address on your account. We'll delete it and confirm by email when it's done. We may keep a minimal payment record when tax or accounting law requires it.
Cookies
We use only what's needed to make the site work, like keeping you signed in and remembering preferences. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Our Cookie Policy has the details.
California and Florida families
Families in California and Florida have privacy rights under state law. Whether or not a specific law applies to a company our size, we offer these rights to every family:
- to know what personal information we have about you and your child
- to get a copy of it
- to correct it
- to delete it
- to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. We don't sell or share it for advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of, but you're welcome to confirm that with us.
- to use any of these rights without being treated differently
To make a request, email privacy@brainmissionacademy.com. We'll verify it's really you before sharing or deleting anything.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your family's information in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and email account holders before the change takes effect. We'll ask for your consent again if we ever want to use your child's information in a new way.
